COVID-19 in Maryland: How do I sign up for the vaccine?

SALISBURY, MD. — COVID-19 vaccinations are expanding in our state. Maryland has begun slowly but surely shifting into Phase 1B of the vaccination plan — a move that is broadening availability for seniors, essential workers and those at high risk for falling seriously ill.
Information is changing on a weekly, sometimes daily basis, about how to get access to a vaccine so check with local health officials and primary care providers often for the most up-to-date details.
Here's what Maryland residents need to know about how to sign up to get vaccinated:
[This story is based on the latest information available on vaccine scheduling in Maryland as of Friday, Jan. 22.]
Maryland entered Phase 1B on Monday, Jan. 18, making vaccines available to those belonging to these priority groups:
- Licensed, registered and certified health care providers;
- Nursing home residents and staff;
- First responders, including law enforcement, firefighters and emergency medical personnel;
- Correctional officers and health care staff;
- Front line judiciary staff;
- People at least 75 years old;
- People in assisted living, independent living, developmental disabilities/behavioral health group homes and other congregate facilities;
- High-risk incarcerated individuals;
- Individuals necessary to continuity of government;
- And educators, which includes K-12 teachers and support staff and child care providers.
Wicomico County residents who fall under the 1a or 1b phases should email: Wicomico [DOT] COVIDvax [AT] maryland [DOT] gov with their name, phase they qualify under and how they qualify for that phase. A registration link will be sent to those individuals as soon as appointments are available.
Appointments are already full for the week starting Monday, Jan. 18, because of limited vaccine supplies. Once more doses are available, the
Wicomico County Health Department will offer future appointment slots to those who have reached out to the above email address.
The following needs to be brought to the appointment:
- Proof of age, such as a driver's license
- Proof of employment, such as a Wicomico County Public Schools ID badge or day care provider company letterhead (if applicable)
- Government ID
The Worcester County Health Department is asking those seeking vaccination to schedule appointments through MarylandVax.org, [01] the state-run sign-up website.
As of Jan. 21, a Facebook post from Worcester health officials [02] said clinics for the week of Jan. 25 and waiting lists for appointments were already filled. Clinic dates are expected to be updated on Thursday mornings, but community members should check back regularly as this is subject to change.
The Somerset County Health Department has also set up an email address for eligible residents to schedule vaccine appointments.
Those interested should reach out to somerset [DOT] covidvax [AT] maryland [DOT] gov with their age and place of employment (if applicable).
The county launched a new COVID-19 hotline as well. Community members can call 443-523-1920 with questions about testing and vaccination.
A timeline for vaccine distribution has the state slated to enter Phase 1c — the final stage of Phase 1 — on Monday, Jan. 25. That would expand availability to:
- Marylanders at least 65 years old;
- Public health and safety workers not covered in Phase 1a;
- And essential workers in lab services, food/agriculture production, manufacturing, the U.S. Postal Service, public transit and grocery stores.
